Grady
Pony
1977?
Ulysses, known as Scooby Doo around the barn, was a very small
pony (only slightly larger than a miniature horse) whose spirit
touched everyone he met. He was one of those horses who just
captured your heart.
Ulysses came to us as a "rack of bones" and despite
his age, was able to regain his strength and health. His strong
personality kept him alive through adversity and allowed him
to thrive in our care. At one point, he was even the "herd
boss" of his paddock, which he shared with two small donkeys.
Sadly, Ulysses suffered a bout of choke that could not be cleared.
Despite the vet's efforts, which spanned over 2 days, the blockage
could not be removed. Ulysses was unable to swallow food or
water, and his body began to fail. After a tremendous fight
for his life, Ulysses was finally laid to rest.
Ulysses was a truly inspiring pony who brought a smile to the
face of everyone who met him. He was proof of the resilient
and forgiving nature of equines, and he will be sorely missed.
All of us at the Ranch loved you, little man, and we hope you
are enjoying some smushy applesauce on the other side of the
Rainbow Bridge.
